from espresso to instant coffee

Advantages and disadvantages of Robusta coffee beans

1. Robusta's "industrial revolution gene"

Core advantages

Strong resistance: can be grown in low altitude/high temperature areas (29 million bags per year in the Mekong Delta of Vietnam).

High oil content: gives espresso a rich Crema (twice the thickness of Arabica).

Cost efficiency: unit output is 30% higher than Arabica, and the price is 40-60% lower.

Flavor characteristics

Advantages: mellow bitterness (suitable for milk drinks), woody tones (spices of Malabar in the Indian monsoon).

Disadvantages: prone to rubber/burnt flavors (due to insufficient drying in rainy areas).

2. Application scenario analysis

Espresso: 10-30% Robusta blend, enhanced body and lasting foam (such as Illy Classico).

Instant coffee: accounts for 95% of the world's instant raw materials (freeze-drying technology retains high caffeine characteristics).

Innovative uses: base for Vietnamese egg coffee and Philippine Kopiko candy.
